Getting the A-number right matters — several MacBooks look identical externally but take completely different parts. Compare it against every model we repair if you are unsure.
These are the faults we see on this specific model at our Ghumar Mandi workshop — not a generic list. Recognising yours here usually means we already hold the parts and know the fix.
T2 no-power faults
The signature A1989 problem. The machine shows no signs of life — no chime, no fan, no charging light. The T2 and its power sequencing circuitry are the usual cause and this is repairable at chip level, though few shops in the region attempt it.
Butterfly keyboard failure
Reduced but not eliminated by the membrane. Repeating and dead keys still occur, and the repair remains a topcase including battery.
Flexgate display cable wear
Stage-light patches along the bottom of the display, progressing to backlight failure. Apple lengthened the cable on later units but many A1989s are still affected.
Charging circuit failure after a surge
Common in Punjab with unstable mains and third-party chargers. Symptoms are 'Not Charging' with a healthy battery, or a machine that runs only on mains.
Thermal throttling under sustained load
A powerful chip in a thin chassis. Dust and dried paste make it markedly worse, and a clean plus repaste restores much of the lost performance.
Soldered and encrypted to the T2. No upgrade path, and data recovery is only possible by restoring the original board to working order.
Apple added a membrane to reduce debris ingress. It helped, but failures still occur — and the fix is still a topcase.

T2-era board components are stocked. Topcase assemblies include keyboard, battery and trackpad as one unit.
Board-level repair is well worth it — a ₹12,000 T2 repair against a machine still worth far more, and it is the only route to the data on the soldered SSD. Topcase replacement is the judgement call, but on a 2018–2019 Pro it usually still makes sense if the rest of the machine is sound.
