iMac Repair · Ludhiana
A slow iMac is usually not a dead iMac. Most of the machines we see need an SSD upgrade, a failed Fusion Drive rebuilt, or a board-level repair — not replacing. We service 21.5", 27" 5K and Apple Silicon iMacs.

Most iMacs that arrive at our Ghumar Mandi workshop are not broken — they are slow. A 2015 or 2017 iMac with a 5400rpm hard drive or a failing Fusion Drive feels unusable next to a modern machine, and owners assume the computer is finished. Replace that drive with an SSD and the same iMac boots in seconds and handles everyday work perfectly well for years more.
That is the single highest-value repair in this category, and it costs a fraction of a new machine. We also handle the genuine failures: dead machines, display faults, fan and thermal problems and board-level repair.
Intel iMacs from 2012 to 2019 shipped with mechanical hard drives or Fusion Drives — a small SSD paired with a spinning disk. Both degrade. Symptoms are long boot times, the beachball on simple tasks, apps taking many seconds to open, and eventually files disappearing or the machine refusing to boot. Replacing the drive with a full SSD is transformative, and we clone your existing installation so everything comes back exactly as it was.
A Fusion Drive presents two physical disks as one volume. When the mechanical half fails, the whole volume becomes unreadable and macOS may refuse to boot entirely. The data is usually still recoverable, and the correct fix is to split the Fusion Drive and run a single SSD instead — which is both faster and far more reliable. See data recovery if files are the priority.
No chime, no fan, no display. On iMacs this is commonly the internal power supply rather than the logic board — a discrete, replaceable part. Where the fault is on the board, we diagnose it at component level using a bench supply and thermal camera, the same process as our MacBook logic board repair.
Vertical or horizontal lines, backlight failure, dark patches, image retention or dust visible behind the glass. On 5K 27" models the display is a genuinely expensive part, so we always establish whether the fault is the panel, the display cable or the graphics section on the board before quoting — the difference in cost is substantial. Dust behind the glass is a clean, not a replacement.
iMacs draw air through a narrow bottom vent and accumulate years of dust. Fans running constantly, a machine hot to the touch, or sudden shutdowns under load usually mean the cooling path is clogged and the thermal paste has dried out. A full strip-down, clean and repaste restores normal running and is far cheaper than people expect. Fans that roar from a cold boot are a different fault — usually a failed temperature sensor.
Some 2011–2015 27" iMacs with discrete graphics suffer solder-joint fatigue under the GPU from years of heat cycling. Symptoms are on-screen artefacts, garbled graphics, or a machine that boots to a black screen while the fans run. Proper repair means BGA rework, not a heat-gun reflow that lasts a few weeks.
27" iMacs have a user-accessible RAM hatch, and going from 8GB to 32GB is inexpensive and immediately noticeable if you keep many browser tabs and apps open. On 21.5" models the RAM is behind the display and on some generations soldered — we will tell you honestly which applies to yours.
The 24" Apple Silicon iMac is a different machine. Storage and memory are part of the SoC, so upgrades are not possible — which makes the purchase configuration permanent and makes board-level repair the only route to data on a dead machine. The faults we see are power delivery, USB-C and Thunderbolt port failures, display cable damage and liquid ingress. All are repairable at component level in-house.

The display on every modern iMac is glued to the chassis with a foam adhesive strip and must be cut free with a purpose-made tool, then re-sealed with fresh adhesive on reassembly. Done without the right tools it cracks the glass, damages the display cables, or leaves the panel sitting proud of the frame with dust trapped behind it. This is the most common reason we see iMacs arrive in worse condition than the original fault.
iMacs are awkward to transport. If you still have the original box, use it. Otherwise wrap the screen face in a blanket, carry it upright rather than flat, and never rest it face-down on a hard surface. We can arrange pickup within Ludhiana city for most iMac jobs — call +91 75080 10067 to schedule. We serve Model Town, Sarabha Nagar, Civil Lines, Ferozepur Road, PAU, Dugri, Haibowal and the surrounding towns. We also repair MacBook, Mac mini, iPhone and iPad.
iMac pricing varies widely by screen size and generation — 27" 5K panels in particular are expensive. Diagnosis is free and the exact price is confirmed in writing before any work begins.
