A damaged MacBook display is the most visible fault there is, and the one most likely to be over-quoted. Before you accept a ₹30,000 estimate, it is worth knowing that many display symptoms are not display failures at all — and that where the panel genuinely is damaged, there is often a cheaper route than a full lid assembly.
At our Ghumar Mandi workshop we diagnose the display path properly — panel, cable, board and backlight circuit are all tested separately — and then give you the options with real prices attached.
Unambiguous: the panel needs replacing. On most Retina MacBooks the glass is fused to the LCD, so there is no "just the glass" repair — but there is often an LCD-only option that reuses your existing lid, hinges, camera and antennas.
Shine a torch at the Apple logo area at an angle. If you can faintly see the desktop, your LCD is fine and the backlight circuit on the logic board has failed — usually a blown backlight fuse plus a damaged filter. That is a logic board repair costing a fraction of a display. This is the single most common way MacBook owners in Ludhiana get overcharged.
Usually a damaged display cable or a failing panel driver. On 2016–2018 13" and 15" MacBook Pro models this is the well-known flexgate issue, where the display flex cable wears through from repeated opening and closing.
The classic early flexgate symptom. It typically appears first when the lid is opened past a certain angle, then worsens until the backlight fails entirely. Acting early sometimes allows a cable-level repair instead of a panel replacement.
Caused by pressure on the closed lid — a charger or pen left on the keyboard is the usual culprit — or by the anti-reflective coating degrading. Coating degradation is cosmetic but progressive; panel damage is permanent.
Flickering is often cable-related and worth testing before condemning a panel. Dead or stuck pixels are a panel fault. Colour banding under specific loads can point at the GPU rather than the display, which is why we always test with an external monitor first.
This is where real money is saved. A full display assembly is the entire lid: panel, housing, hinges, camera, antennas and cables. It is fast to fit and expensive to buy. An LCD-only replacement replaces just the panel inside your existing lid — the delicate part of the job, and the reason most shops do not offer it.
| Model group | LCD-only | Full assembly |

We recommend LCD-only whenever your lid, hinges and camera are undamaged and a quality panel is available for the model. Where the lid itself is bent, the hinges are loose or the camera and antennas are damaged, a full assembly is the correct choice and we will say so.
Display panels vary enormously in quality, and the cheapest options on the market look fine for a month and then disappoint: washed-out colour, poor viewing angles, wrong brightness range, no True Tone support. We fit graded panels that match the original specification for resolution, brightness, colour gamut and refresh behaviour, and we tell you exactly which grade you are getting before you approve the quote.
Every panel we fit carries a six-month warranty covering panel failure, backlight failure and dead pixels appearing after fitting.
Sometimes the honest answer is no. On a nine-year-old MacBook Air with a failing battery and a small storage drive, a ₹15,000 display may not be the best use of your money. We will tell you that, and where it makes sense we will suggest running the machine on an external monitor as a desktop instead. Equally, on a two-year-old MacBook Pro, a display replacement at a quarter of the machine's value is straightforwardly worth doing.
What we will not do is quote a display replacement for a fault that is actually a ₹4,000 backlight circuit repair. That distinction is the reason customers travel to Ghumar Mandi from Model Town, Sarabha Nagar, Civil Lines, Dugri, PAU and further afield. See our full MacBook repair service in Ludhiana or read the screen replacement guide.
Display pricing varies widely by model and by whether an LCD-only repair is possible. Every quote follows a free diagnosis, because a significant share of "screen problems" turn out to be board or cable faults that cost far less to fix.
