Liquid damage
Still the leading cause of A2681 board repairs. The flat chassis gives liquid slightly less direct a path than the old wedge, but the board is denser and corrosion is unforgiving.
MagSafe 3 port and charging faults
The return of MagSafe reduced USB-C port wear, but the MagSafe port itself is now a wear point — charging that only works at an angle, or not at all, usually starts here.
Display cracks and notch-area damage
The thinner Liquid Retina panel is more fragile than the M1's. Pressure damage from bags and objects left on the keyboard is the most common physical failure, and the display is one of the pricier parts.
Thermal throttling under sustained load
Like the M1 Air, the M2 is fanless. Long video exports throttle noticeably. This is design, not fault — but owners often mistake it for one.
USB-C / Thunderbolt port failure
Two ports on one side means both take heavy use with hubs and displays. Port replacement is a board-level job we do routinely.
Part of the M2 package and encrypted to the Secure Enclave — no upgrade path, and data recovery requires repairing the original board.
Reliable mechanism. Faults are liquid-related rather than mechanical.

Displays for the M2 Air are expensive and usually need ordering. Board-level components and ports are stocked.
Worth repairing at every level — this is a current machine. The one repair that needs thought is a cracked display, where the part cost is high; even then it remains far below replacement. Board-level repair is also the only route to the data on its soldered storage.
