Shiv i Care
Looks identical to the A1932 but has the redesigned Magic Keyboard with proper scissor switches. Early 2020 model, replaced by the M1 later the same year.
Getting the A-number right matters — several MacBooks look identical externally but take completely different parts. Compare it against every model we repair if you are unsure.
These are the faults we see on this specific model at our Ghumar Mandi workshop — not a generic list. Recognising yours here usually means we already hold the parts and know the fix.
Severe thermal throttling
The A2179's cooling was inadequate for its Intel chips — the heatsink does not fully cover the CPU on some configurations. Sustained video calls or exports cause heavy throttling. A clean and repaste helps meaningfully on this model, more than on most.
Fan noise under light load
Owners frequently report the fan spinning up during ordinary browsing. Partly design, partly dust — servicing the cooling path makes a noticeable difference.
Charging and USB-C port failure
Two USB-C ports doing all the work, including charging. Port wear and surge damage to the charging circuit are common, and both are chip-level repairs.
T2-related no-power and boot faults
Shares the A1932's T2 behaviour — failed power-on sequences and boot problems that survive a macOS reinstall are board faults, not software.
Liquid damage
Dense board, tight tolerances and no spill channel. Speed matters enormously here — do not power it on after a spill.
Soldered and T2-encrypted like the A1932. No upgrade path, and data recovery requires board repair.
The fix for the butterfly era. Far more reliable — keyboard faults on this model are usually liquid-related rather than mechanical failure.
These are the ranges we actually quote for the A2179 after a free diagnosis. The written estimate you approve is the price you pay.
| Repair | Typical range | Turnaround |
|---|---|---|
| Deep clean + thermal repaste | ₹3,500 – ₹6,000 | 24 hrs |
| Battery / topcase assembly | ₹9,500 – ₹16,000 | 1 – 3 days |
| Charging circuit repair | ₹4,500 – ₹9,500 | 24 – 72 hrs |
| Backlight circuit repair | ₹3,500 – ₹7,000 | 24 – 48 hrs |
| Display assembly | ₹17,000 – ₹25,000 | 2 – 4 days |
| Board-level repair | ₹6,500 – ₹16,000 | 2 – 4 days |
Shares many parts with the A1932, so battery and display availability is good. Board-level components are standard T2-era parts we stock.
Worth repairing across the board — it is a recent enough machine with a good keyboard, and current macOS still supports it. If your complaint is heat and fan noise rather than a fault, start with a clean and repaste before assuming anything is broken; on this model it produces a bigger improvement than on any other Air.
Turnaround for this model is shown against each repair in the table above; diagnosis itself is same-day. Before leaving your MacBook Air anywhere, it is worth knowing which questions to ask a repair shop — the difference between component-level repair and board replacement is invisible from the outside and decides both your bill and whether your data survives.
