Shiv i Care
Wedge-shaped aluminium body, MagSafe 2 charger, two USB-A ports and an SD card slot on the right. A-number printed under the hinge on the base.
Getting the A-number right matters — several MacBooks look identical externally but take completely different parts. Compare it against every model we repair if you are unsure.
These are the faults we see on this specific model at our Ghumar Mandi workshop — not a generic list. Recognising yours here usually means we already hold the parts and know the fix.
Swollen battery lifting the trackpad
By far the most common A1466 fault in 2026 — these batteries are now 8 to 12 years old. The first sign is a trackpad that clicks unevenly or stops clicking, followed by the base no longer sitting flat. It is a same-day fix and among the cheapest repairs we do.
Slow performance from a small, aged SSD
Most A1466 units shipped with 128GB or 256GB. Once macOS and your files fill it, the machine crawls. An SSD upgrade is transformative on this model and usually costs less than a battery replacement on a newer Mac.
MagSafe 2 port and charging faults
The MagSafe board is a separate, inexpensive part on this model. Charging that only works at a certain cable angle, or a charger light that never turns green, is often the port rather than the logic board.
Liquid damage through the keyboard
The A1466 has no spill channel. Liquid reaches the logic board quickly, but because the board is comparatively simple and components are large, chip-level recovery success on this model is high — provided it was not powered on afterwards.
Hinge and display bezel wear
After a decade of opening and closing, hinges loosen and the screen no longer holds its angle. Repairable without replacing the whole display on this generation.
Proprietary Apple blade SSD that accepts a standard NVMe drive with a small adapter — 512GB, 1TB and 2TB upgrades are all straightforward, and your existing installation is cloned across.
The reliable generation. Individual key repairs are possible and a full topcase swap is inexpensive compared with any later model.
These are the ranges we actually quote for the A1466 after a free diagnosis. The written estimate you approve is the price you pay.
| Repair | Typical range | Turnaround |
|---|---|---|
| Battery replacement | ₹4,500 – ₹6,500 | Same day |
| SSD upgrade 512GB (cloned) | ₹7,000 – ₹10,000 | Same day |
| SSD upgrade 1TB (cloned) | ₹11,000 – ₹16,000 | Same day |
| MagSafe / I-O board | ₹3,000 – ₹5,500 | Same day – 24 hrs |
| Keyboard / topcase | ₹6,500 – ₹10,000 | 1 – 2 days |
| Screen replacement | ₹9,000 – ₹13,000 | 1 – 2 days |
| Liquid damage board repair | ₹4,000 – ₹11,000 | 3 – 5 days |
Parts for the A1466 remain widely available and inexpensive — this is the cheapest MacBook in our workshop to keep running.
Still absolutely worth repairing in 2026 if the fault is a battery, SSD, charging board or keyboard. A battery plus an SSD upgrade together typically costs under ₹15,000 and gives a genuinely usable machine for email, documents, browsing and college work. Where we advise against spending is a major logic board repair combined with a failed display — at that point the total approaches what a used Apple Silicon Air costs.
Turnaround for this model is shown against each repair in the table above; diagnosis itself is same-day. Before leaving your MacBook Air anywhere, it is worth knowing which questions to ask a repair shop — the difference between component-level repair and board replacement is invisible from the outside and decides both your bill and whether your data survives.
