Shiv i Care
Display
6.1" Super Retina XDR, ProMotion OLED 120Hz
Years
2023 – 2024
Port
USB-C
Back glass
Laser separation
Titanium sides with a brushed finish, an Action Button where the mute switch used to be, three cameras, USB-C, 6.1-inch screen. Noticeably lighter in the hand than the stainless steel 14 Pro.
Display
ProMotion OLED with always-on and Dynamic Island. A costly assembly, and one where aftermarket panels often fail to sustain 120Hz properly.
Back glass
Matte glass in a titanium frame, laser separated. The titanium chassis is less forgiving of clumsy heat work than aluminium, so this is not a job for a rushed bench.
Face ID
Face ID components are paired to the logic board and the display. An aftermarket screen needs the pairing transferred by microsoldering, or Face ID stops working entirely.
Charging
USB-C, the first generation to switch. The port is a modular part rather than something soldered to the board, which makes port replacement cleaner than it was on Lightning models — but it also means cheap third-party cables and chargers now carry more risk, and we do see boards damaged by them. On the Pro the port also carries faster data transfer, so a poorly fitted replacement can show up as unreliable file transfer rather than a charging fault.
Battery
Early units drew attention for running warm, which iOS updates addressed. Batteries are generally healthy at this age; heat complaints now are usually a background app or a failing charging circuit rather than the phone's design.
Cracked ProMotion panel
The most common repair, and the one where panel grade matters most. Ask what is being fitted before accepting a low quote.
Action Button failure
New to this generation and a new failure point — a button that stops registering or sticks. Replaceable.
USB-C port and data transfer faults
Charging fine but refusing to transfer files, or intermittent connection. The Pro's faster port makes a marginal repair more obvious.
Diagnosis is free and the price is confirmed in writing before any work starts — we quote the machine in front of us, not a description over the phone.
Repair it. A current flagship with years of support left, where even the most expensive repair is well under replacement cost. The only thing worth being firm about is screen quality — a genuine ProMotion panel matters on this phone, and the cheapest quote in town is rarely fitting one.
Face ID is not a parts swap
On every iPhone from the X onward, the Face ID components are paired to your logic board. Anyone offering to restore Face ID by fitting a new module is mistaken — it is board-level work transferring your original parts, or it does not work at all.
