Shiv i Care
Display
6.1" Super Retina XDR, ProMotion OLED 120Hz
Years
2022 – 2023
Port
Lightning
Back glass
Laser separation
The first iPhone with the Dynamic Island — a pill at the top of the screen that expands when you tap it. 6.1 inches, three cameras, matte back, stainless steel sides.
Display
ProMotion OLED with the Dynamic Island and an always-on mode. A distinctly expensive assembly, and one where low-grade aftermarket panels struggle — both with sustaining 120Hz and with the always-on behaviour.
Back glass
Worth being clear about: the 14 Pro did not get the removable rear panel that the standard 14 received. It uses the older bonded construction and needs laser separation, so a cracked back costs substantially more here than on the cheaper phone released alongside it.
Face ID
Face ID components are paired to the logic board and to the display. An aftermarket screen needs the pairing transferred by microsoldering to keep Face ID working — done properly it behaves normally, done cheaply it does not work at all.
Charging
Lightning, the last Pro generation before USB-C.
Battery
ProMotion plus always-on means this works its battery harder than the standard 14. Heavy users are starting to see the first replacements now.
Cracked back glass — expensive on this model
The single most misunderstood cost in this generation. Same year, same launch event, but a cracked back on a 14 Pro is a bonded-glass job while the standard 14 next to it is a panel swap.
Cracked ProMotion panel
The most expensive screen in the 6.1-inch class, and where panel grade matters most.
Main camera shake or focus failure
The large 48MP sensor and its stabilisation are a known failure point, showing as juddering video or hunting focus.
Diagnosis is free and the price is confirmed in writing before any work starts — we quote the machine in front of us, not a description over the phone.
Worth repairing — it is a recent, capable phone and screen, battery and camera work are all justified. The honest warning is back glass: if you have cracked the rear of a 14 Pro, expect a real bill, because this model did not get the serviceable panel design. We would rather tell you that up front than after you have left the phone with us.
Face ID is not a parts swap
On every iPhone from the X onward, the Face ID components are paired to your logic board. Anyone offering to restore Face ID by fitting a new module is mistaken — it is board-level work transferring your original parts, or it does not work at all.
